Passage: Proverbs 6:16-19
Service Type:

Bible Text: Proverbs 6:16-19 | Preacher: Bryan Loughmiller

Seven Things God Hates, Pt, 1

Did you ever wonder why Solomon wrote, "six things ... Yes, seven"? I always wondered why he didn't just start off with seven. I wondered if God only hates six, what about the seventh abomination. But you cannot be that literal with figures of speech. The ancient way of writing a numerical proverb was as follows: first you select a number, then you connect it with a concept, then you add one for poetic effect. Why? I don't know. Who decided that poetry was supposed to rhyme? Solomon chose six, connected it with "things the Lord hates" and then added one to make seven.
